Must visit Musea in Germany

  • Pergamonmuseum, Berlin: This architectural marvel houses priceless artifacts from ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome, including the Ishtar Gate of Babylon and the Pergamon Altar From Bergama Turkiye.
  • Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlin: Immerse yourself in 19th-century European art with masterpieces by Monet, Manet, Renoir, and Caspar David Friedrich.
  • Gemäldegalerie, Berlin: Admire an extensive collection of European paintings from the 13th to the 18th centuries, including works by Botticelli, Rembrandt, and Rubens.
  • Kunsthalle Hamburg, Hamburg: Housing an impressive collection of European art from the 14th to the 20th centuries, including works by Lucas Cranach, Caspar David Friedrich, and Max Liebermann. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions showcasing contemporary art and design.
  • Porsche Museum, Stuttgart: Gearheads and design enthusiasts will definitely love this museum, showcasing the history and evolution of Porsche cars. The building itself is an architectural marvel, shaped like a slanted cylinder.


Tips and information

  • Most Musea like the Alte Nationalgalerie and Gemäldegalerie will offer free admission for persons under 18 years.
  • For every first Sunday of the month there are free admission tickets available, but quite difficult to acquire due to high demand.
  • Musea in Berlin are closed on Mondays (sometimes Tuesdays as well). Always check in advance before visiting.
  • A Berlin Museums Pass might be beneficial if you're planning to visit more than several musea at once.
  • The Pergamon Museum is closed until 2027 due to renovations.
  • Most of the main Musea in Berlin are located in the so called Museum Island.
