Must visit musea in The Netherlands

  • Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam: Housing a vast collection of Dutch art from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, including masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Frans Hals. The recently renovated building is a marvel in itself.
  • Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam: Immerse yourself in the life and works of Vincent van Gogh, featuring the largest collection of his paintings and drawings in the world. Many masterpieces from his colleagues such as MunchMonet, Manet, Gauguin, Degas and many more are also part of the collection.
  • Mauritshuis, The Hague: Home to a renowned collection of Dutch Golden Age paintings, including masterpieces by Johannes Vermeer such as The girl with a pearl earring and The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius.
  • The Lakenhal Museum, Leiden: The museum is housed in a 17th-century building that was originally used as a cloth hall. The museum's collection includes works of art by Jan Steen, Frans Hals, and Rembrandt, including one of his famous works Sight .
  • Nijntje Museum, Utrecht: The Nijntje museum is a must-visit for any fan of the beloved children's character, Miffy (known as Nijntje in the Netherlands). Located in Utrecht, the museum is a colorful and interactive space that brings the world of Miffy to life.


Tips and information

  • Most Musea like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh will offer free admission for persons under 18 years.
  • Musea in Amsterdam are 7 days a week open, however some like the Lakenhal in Leiden and Nijntje (Miffy) Museum in Utrecht are closed on Mondays. Always check in advance before visiting.
  • A Museum Netherlands Pass might be beneficial if you're planning to visit more than several musea at once within a year.
  • Most main musea in Amsterdam are located in the so called Museumplein.
